Who operates Funeral Answering Desk

TypeScience, trading as Funeral Answering Desk, operates this website and the receptionist service. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean that operator. You can contact support@funeralansweringdesk.com for service help and privacy@funeralansweringdesk.com for questions or requests about personal information.

This policy covers business customers, people who visit our website, and people who call a customer's funeral home. It also covers demo calls and chats on our own site. The information involved depends on whether you browse, try the demo, open an account, or call a business using the receptionist.

Our role in handling callers' information

The funeral home decides what caller information to collect and why it needs that information. We process caller information on that business's behalf to provide the receptionist service. Our data processing terms form part of the terms of service.

If you called a funeral home, that home is your contact for questions about its reasons for collecting your details. You can also send a privacy request to us at privacy@funeralansweringdesk.com. We do not use callers' information for our own marketing.

Account and billing information

We collect account details including your name, business name, email address, and phone number. These details relate to the business account through which you set up and use the service. Billing is handled by our payment processor, and we do not store full payment card numbers.

Account information is separate from the information a family shares when calling your funeral home. A customer may appear in both contexts, for example as the account contact and as a person speaking during a test call. Call audio and transcripts are handled as call information under this policy.

Business information used during setup

We collect the answers you give during onboarding and content from the website you direct us to use. This information teaches the receptionist about your services, hours, service area, price policy, and instructions for urgent calls. It also includes the contacts you provide for reaching your on-call person.

Your instructions determine how the receptionist handles questions and messages for your business. A price list you supply is the basis for its price answers. Review the business information you provide so it reflects the instructions you want the receptionist to follow.

Call audio, transcripts, and messages

We collect call audio, recordings, transcripts, summaries, and caller phone numbers as part of providing the service. A call can include the details a caller shares in response to your intake questions. For a funeral home, those details may concern a first call, arrangements, a planning inquiry, or a message for a director.

Calls, website and demo chats, recordings, transcripts and summaries of trial and customer accounts may be reviewed by authorized staff for quality, support and abuse prevention. Access is limited to those purposes.

The receptionist states at the start of each call that it is a virtual assistant and that the call is recorded. These notices cannot be disabled. Call records are available through your dashboard, and call alerts provide the summary, urgency tag, transcript, and recording by email and app push notification.

Demo calls and chats

We record and transcribe calls and chats in the demo on this website to show you the result. The demo uses a fictional funeral business and lets you hear the receptionist before signing up. Trying the demo does not require an account.

What you say or type during a demo becomes part of that demo interaction. Use a fictional situation when exploring a first-call or price-question scenario. The demo's recording and transcript let you assess how the service handles the conversation.

Website analytics and cookies

We use privacy-friendly analytics and Google Analytics to understand website activity. Google Analytics uses cookies. This website activity is a separate source of information from calls to a customer's funeral home.

Analytics providers are among the service providers used for the website. If you have a question about analytics information or want to make an opt-out request, email privacy@funeralansweringdesk.com. You can use the same address for questions about information collected during a website visit.

Service providers that handle information

We use providers for hosting and storage, telephone services, AI models for voice and text, payment processing, email delivery, and analytics. These categories support the website, account functions, and receptionist service. Providing a call answer and producing a transcript involve processing conversation information through the service.

Our AI model provider, OpenAI, does not use our API data to train its models by default. This describes OpenAI's training default for that API data. It does not mean that voice and text providers take no part in processing calls.

Sale of information and marketing use

We never sell personal information. We also never use callers' data for our own marketing. A caller's conversation with your funeral home is processed on your behalf for the receptionist service.

That distinction applies whether the caller reports a death, asks about prices, or leaves a message. The service creates call records for your business to review and act on. Those records do not become a marketing list for Funeral Answering Desk.

Recording and transcript retention

Recordings are kept for the period the customer business chooses: 30 or 90 days. After the selected period, recordings are deleted. The business's choice determines the recording retention period for its calls.

Transcripts and summaries are kept while the account is open. They are deleted within 30 days after the account closes or on request. This transcript and summary schedule is separate from the selected recording retention period.

Access, correction, deletion, and opt-out requests

You can request access to personal information, correction, deletion, or an opt-out by emailing privacy@funeralansweringdesk.com. Callers can ask the funeral home or contact us directly. California residents can also contact us about their privacy rights where those rights apply.

For caller information, the funeral home decides what is collected and the purposes of collection. Tell us whether your request concerns a website visit, demo interaction, account, or call to a customer business so the request identifies the relevant context. Use the privacy address for requests about personal information and the support address for general service help.

Children and policy updates

Funeral Answering Desk is not intended for children under 13. This policy applies to the website and service described here. Questions about personal information involving a child can be sent to privacy@funeralansweringdesk.com.

We date policy changes on this page. The date above identifies the current policy update. Read the service terms for the subscription and data processing terms, or contact us for help with a question about the service.
